PITA MAHA

This is one of our very favorite hotels, not only in Bali, but in the world. A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Pita Maha lives up to this designation in a relaxed, comfortable way.

Located on the outskirts of Ubud, with easy access to shops and restaurants, Pita Maha is perched on the side of a thick ravine. The grounds are richly landscaped. There are fabulous views from both the restaurant and the natural spring water pool. We love this pool, which appears to overflow down the side of the ravine. Pita Maha also has a top-of-the-line staff.

The villas, which are constructed of stone and thatching, are surrounded by stone walls, ensuring complete privacy. Each villa has its own garden, a large covered porch and an outdoor Balinese style bathroom, that has to be seen to be believed.

The villas have been designed so that the bedroom and living room are separated by a single step, rather than a wall. It makes for an especially spacious living environment. There's also a roomy dressing area.

Pita Maha, which is more reasonably priced than comparable luxury-class properties, has only 24 villas, and is very much in demand. Therefore, we encourage booking as far in advance as possible.
